CHARGERS WIN BIG TO SECURE FIRST SHUTOUT OF THE SEASON

Chicopee, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team traveled to Elms College on Wednesday for a GNAC matchup. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Abby Olden (Belchertown, Mass.) scored the first goal of the game for the Chargers within five minutes of the start of the game. 

  • Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) assisted Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) for the second Chargers goal of the game right before the end of the first quarter. 

  • About seven minutes later, Kylie Walden (Bellingham, Mass.) scored her third goal of the year. Moments later, Olden assisted Fredette for her second of the game. With less than 10 seconds left in the half Olden assisted Olivia Watson (Danvers, Mass.), making it her first collegiate goal. 

  • In the first minute of the second half Reese Holcomb (Essex Junction, VT) scored from an Olden assist. Farquhar would go on to score two more goals in the quarter with Luci Walden assisting the first of the two. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Olden's three assists has her tied for fourth in single-game assists in program history. 

  • Addy Araneo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Sophie Krauss (Essex, VT) split the game in goal, both helping the Chargers to a shutout. 

  • Farquhar's three goal performance puts her at 15 goals so far this season. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers travel to Standish, Maine on Saturday to play Saint Joseph's College of Maine for an 11am start.
