NEWTON, MASS. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team concluded its 2024 season on Saturday in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) quarterfinal game with a 1-1 loss in penalty kicks to Lasell University.

- The Chargers and Lasers traded shots back and forth in the first half as both teams came ready to battle on Saturday. Senior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) fired a header on target with Laser defenseman Brianna Marrero making the save to keep the score at 0-0. O'Connell got the visitors on the board in the 20th minute with a goal of her own, with the assist coming from senior Halle Pletzer (Barre, Vt.). O'Connell would continue her offensive pressure firing another shot on target as it hit the crossbar. The Lasers would respond three minutes later with a goal of their own to tie the game at 1-1. The Chargers continued to stay on the attack with back-to-back corner kicks as first-year Kate Vasconcelos (Woodsville, N.H.) and senior Hannah Himes (Williston, Vt.) would fire shots of their own, but Laser goalkeeper Elizabeth DaSilva made key saves to keep the score at 1-1. The Chargers kept their offensive pressure on the Lasers late in the first half with junior Lauren Ardolino (Milford, Conn.) and graduate student Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) each firing a shot of their own, but DaSilva remained tough in net at the scored remained tied heading into halftime.
- The Chargers brought the offensive intensity in the second half as O'Connell and Pletzer would fire shots of their own, but DaSilva made saves for the Lasers to keep the score at 1-1. Pletzer, O'Connell, and Bishop all fired shots of their own, but were unable to find the back of the net. First-year Maddy Minckler (Claremont, N.H.) would fire a shot on target, but DaSilva made the save and kept the score tied. Senior Hannah Brown (Pembroke, N.H.) would fire a shot on target, but the Lasers made the defensive save as the whistle blew to end the second half as the Chargers and Lasers were tied 1-1.
- The Chargers went on the attack in the first round of overtime with O'Connell, Pletzer, and Bishop all firing shots of their own, but could not find the back of the net. The Lasers went on the attack late in overtime, but key saves by junior goalkeeper Gabriela Calidonio (Flager Beach, Fla.), kept the Chargers and Lasers all tied up as the first overtime came to a close.
- Lasell brought the offensive pressure in the second round of overtime as the Lasers fired shots of their own on target, but Calidonio remained tough in net. Senior Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) would fire a shot of her own, but was unable to find the back of the net as the Chargers and Lasers would still be tied. The two teams would then head into a round of penalty kicks where the winner would advance to the next round of the GNAC tournament.
- The Chargers would fall in 3-1 in penalty kicks as O'Connell would score the lone goal for the Chargers.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Chargers outshot the Lasers 27-8.
- O'Connell led the way for the Chargers with ten shots as Pletzer and Bishop added five and three shots respectively.
- Calidonio would record three saves in net for the Chargers.
