Chargers Season Concludes in GNAC Semifinal Loss to Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team concluded its 2023 season on Wednesday in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semifinals with a 5-0 loss to Johnson & Wales. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The teams battled for the first stretch in the midfield. Junior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) had the first chance in the contest in the 15th minute, but her shot went wide. The Wildcats opened the scoring in the 16th minute as Angelina Oliveira scored on an assist by Skyla Landry. In the 36th minute the lead doubled as Emily DeRoehn headed in a shot on a corner by Sophia Iovino.The Chargers would get their only corner of the match in the 38th minute, but it would not come to fruition as the lead was 2-0 headed into halftime.
  • In the first five minutes of the second half the Wildcats added two more scores as DeRoehn and Kylie Schmidt each placed two goals in the net to balloon the lead to 4-0. The final goal came in the 71st minute to put the contest out of reach for the Wildcats win.
Inside the Numbers: 
  • Graduate student Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine) made 14 saves in net for the Chargers. 
  • O'Connell led the offense with two shots and a single on target.
  • The Chargers were out shot by a 28-3 margin in the loss with a 19-1 on target differential. 
  • This concludes a record year for the Chargers who end the year 12-7-3 with a 10-4-3 conference record.
