NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 1, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team fell to Plattsburgh State, 2-0, in Saturday's season opener for the Chargers.
Plattsburgh State, which was selected third in the SUNYAC preseason poll, improves to 2-0 and will host Union on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Chargers (0-1) will return to action on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. contest at Keene State.
The visitors struck for a pair of first-half goals, which proved to be the match's only scoring. In the 13th minute, freshman Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y.) broke away from the Colby-Sawyer defense at midfield and then beat the goalie with her second tally of the season.
The Cardinals doubled their lead in the 40th minute when junior Katie Matott (Rouses Point, N.Y.) was fed a nice through ball by freshman teammate Kirsten Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y.). Matott had just the goalie to beat and she deposited her third goal of the season into the right side of the net.
Plattsburgh State goalie Taylor Adams (Schenectady, N.Y.) finished with five saves in the clean sheet. Colby-Sawyer junior
Sam Mitchell (Chester, N.H.) took the loss after playing the first 40 minutes with five saves. Senior
