Two Late Goals Lift Field Hockey to Comeback Win at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. - September 1, 2018 - For the second time in less than 24 hours, the Colby-Sawyer field hockey team found themselves trailing an opponent in the second half. The Chargers scored twice in the final 1:20 of regulation to complete the 3-2 comeback win at Gordon on Saturday.

The Chargers improve to 2-0 and will play at Fitchburg State on Wednesday. Gordon dips to 1-1.

Junior Alie Jones put the visitors in front with her second goal of the season 10 minutes into the contest. Gordon found the tying goal in the 32nd minute off the stick of Sabrina Jandreau.

The Chargers held a 7-1 advantage in shots and 5-0 margin in penalty corners in the first half, but the score remained 1-1.

Early in the second half, Jandreau gave Gordon a 2-1 lead with her fourth tally of the season.

Trailing 2-1 with time running out, the Chargers continued to apply pressure and were able to knot the game at 2-2 when sophomore Sarah Morin found the back of the cage with 1:20 showing on the clock.

With the Chargers destined for overtime for the second time in as many days, senior Sierra Schuster put away the game-winning goal off an assist from Morin.

Colby-Sawyer held the Fighting Scots without a shot in the last eight minutes of play.

Sophomore goalie Abby Ladd made one save to earn the win for the Chargers. Julia Altman recorded four saves, while Briana Kowolenko and Abigail Darling chipped in with defensive saves.
