CASTLETON, Vt. - September 23, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team dropped its North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener at Castleton, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers drop to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the NAC. The team hosts three games next week starting on Tuesday against Anna Maria. Castleton improves to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the NAC.
Colby-Sawyer jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on
Paige Viens' fifth goal of the season off a feed from
Julia Lanctot as the two played give-and-go.
The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Chargers for the next 48 minutes until Castleton's Emily Lowell was successful on a penalty.
The Spartans took the lead 10 minutes later on a goal from Mariah Linnett and did not look back. The Spartans added an insurance goal less than two minutes later when Casey Traill finished a pass from Gabriella Hunt.
Leah Holland made six saves for Castleton.
Abby Ladd had two stops for Colby-Sawyer, while defender
Jenna Donahue added a defensive save.
