Field Hockey Drops NAC Opener to Husson, 7-2

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 26, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener to Husson, 7-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Husson improves to 2-5 overall and 1-0 in the NAC. The Eagles will host The University of Maine at Farmington next Saturday. The Chargers have their four game win streak snapped and fall to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Colby-Sawyer will host non-conference opponent Rivier on Wednesday.

Senior Britt Mellor (Belfast, Maine) quickly put the visitors on the board 1:33 into the game. The Eagles double the lead 39 seconds later on a goal from junior Libby Kain (Dexter, Maine).

Colby-Sawyer cut the deficit in half 40 seconds later on a goal from Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.) who connected on a pass from freshman Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.).

In the sixth minute, Mellor struck for her second goal of the game off a feed from sophomore Mikayla Toth (Skowhegan, Maine).

The Chargers pulled within one again in the 21st minute with junior Allyse Mullen's (Wilder, Vt.) three goal of the season.

Husson added a fourth goal as time expired at the end of the first half to take a 4-2 lead into the break.

The Eagles would score three more times in the second half on goals from Toth, sophomore Hanna Jordan (Lisbon Falls, Maine) and sophomore Taylor Shaw (Plymouth, Maine).

Husson goalie Kaitlin Dolloff (Richmond, R.I.) played the first half and earned the win, while junior Anne Marie Provencal (Skowhegan, Maine) made one save in the second half.

Colby-Sawyer goalie Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) made nine saves in the loss.

Husson outshot Colby-Sawyer 21-5 and held an edge in penalty corners 13-3.
