BEVERLY, Mass. – September 2, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team dropped its season opener 4-2 at Endicott, Wednesday night at North Field.
The Gulls drew first blood when freshman forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) found the back of the cage unassisted for her first career goal at the five minute mark. Senior forward Morgan Bresnahan (South Burlington, Vt.) added another goal on a reverse backhanded shot to give the Gulls a 2-0 lead at the half. Brittany Grandbois (East Barre, Vt.) in the 40th minute.
Sophomore forward Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) put Endicott up 3-1 in the 59th minute, assisted by senior midfielder Ashleigh Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.). Junior midfielder
Allyse Mullen (Wilder, Vt.) brought the game to within 3-2 in the 61st minute.
Cogliano secured the victory with her second goal of the game in the 68th minute, assisted by Allen.
Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) made three saves for the Gulls. Senior goalkeeper
Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) notched 14 saves between the pipes.
Endicott earned 19 penalty corners to Colby-Sawyer's six.Endicott (1-0, 0-0 CCC) will face Babson College (1-0) on Friday, September 8 at 4:00 p.m. at North Field. Colby-Sawyer will take on Anna Maria on Saturday, September 5 at 12:00 p.m. in the home opener for the Chargers.
