Quaye and Jorgensen Power Chargers Past Plymouth State, 2-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 7, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team broke a scoreless tie with a pair of goals in the final eight minutes to defeat Plymouth State, 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Kelsey Field.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 6-2-2 and will resume North Atlantic Conference play this weekend in Vermont with matches at Lyndon and Johnson State. The Panthers drop to 4-4 and will resume Little East Conference action on Saturday when they travel to Western Connecticut for a 5 p.m. match against the Colonials.

The first half saw back and forth action as each team jockeyed to tilt the field in their direction resulting in no goals.

The second half was played much the same until the Chargers began to take a flurry of shots at the Plymouth net. Colby-Sawyer finally broke through in the 83rd minute.

Junior Lizzie Jorgensen (Manchester, Vt.) sent a bounding ball over the Panthers defenders to a racing Rachel Quaye (Westminster, Mass.). Quaye was able to gather the ball and create separation from the defender to take a shot. She put enough power behind the ball that the goalie could not handle the shot, which wound up in the left corner of the net. The goal was Quaye's team leading seventh of the season.

Quaye and Jorgensen connected again less than four minutes later to give the Chargers an insurance goal and secure the 2-0 victory. Quaye sent a through ball to Jorgensen who flicked the ball over the outstretched keeper for her second goal of the season.

Senior Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) made one save for the Chargers and earned her fifth clean sheet of the season. Plymouth keeper Leandra Nault (Goffstown, N.H.) made four saves.
Colby-Sawyer finished with a 20-5 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
