Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 20, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team earned a 3-0 victory over the visiting Hawks of Becker College at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field Saturday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer (4-4) plays at Daniel Webster on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Becker (1-5) continues its five game road trip with a match at Worcester State on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Senior
Rebecca Perley (Sandown, N.H.) scored the game's first goal and eventual game-winner at 21:28 in the first frame. Sophomore
Erika Leach (Barrington, N.H.) was credited with the assist.
The Chargers took a 1-0 lead into the half and outshot the Hawks 14-1 in the first 35 minutes.
Less than a minute into the second stanza, senior
Nykki Stritzinger (Bel Air, Md.) put the home team on top 2-0. Stritzinger controlled the ball on the right side of the cage and ripped a shot to the cross corner past the goalie for her third goal of the season.
Becker's best change came with 17 minutes left to play. Junior Brittany Cormier (Danbury, Conn.) thought she had cut the deficit in half, but Colby-Sawyer goalie
Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) made a sprawling save to preserve the shutout.
Stritzinger added her team leading fourth goal of the season with 34 seconds left in the second half.
Dumayne made six saves in the victory for the Chargers, while Becker goalie Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.) turned in an impressive performance with 17 saves.
