Clarkson Strikes in Double Overtime to Defeat Chargers, 1-0

Box Score

POTSDAM, N.Y. - August 29, 2014 - Clarkson's Nikki Carfi broke a scoreless tie in the final minutes of the second overtime to lift the Golden Knights to a 1-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer in a season opener for both team at Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson is now 1-0 while Colby-Sawyer sees their record fall to 0-1.

Even though there was 106 minutes before the first goal, this was not a game without offense. There were 33 total shots taken between the two teams, with Colby-Sawyer holding an 18-15 edge. Colby-Sawyer also had a staggering 12 to two advantage in corner kicks.

However, it was not until the second overtime period for one of those shots to find the back of the net. Carfi collected a throw in from Megan Strijek (Schenectady, N.Y.) and proceeded to weave her way between multiple Colby-Sawyer defenders and clipped a shot over the diving keeper for the winning score.

The Clarkson defense, led by Kim Kenline (Akron, N.Y.) who tallied seven saves, was strong all game. The Colby-Sawyer keeper, Karley Hamilton, also played very well in the loss, besting Kenline's save total by one and finishing with eight.
