Women's Soccer to Host Castleton in NAC Championship for Third Straight Season

NEW LONDON, N.H. - November 7, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team will host Castleton on Saturday in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship match for the third straight season. The match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and can be followed live at http://nsnsports.net/nac/

Ever since the Chargers joined the NAC in 2011, these two teams instantly became rivals with each side seeing success. After the Spartans welcomed to the Chargers to the league with a 6-0 victory in New London, Colby-Sawyer has picked up three straight regular season victories. The Chargers earned a pair of 2-1 wins at Castleton in 2012 and 2013 and a 1-0 win in New London earlier this season. The teams have split the past two NAC Championships, which were both hosted by Colby-Sawyer. In the Chargers' first title game appearance since they were a member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference in 1997, Castleton came away with a 2-1 win in 2012. The Chargers avenged the loss by defeating the Spartans 1-0 a season ago for the program's first conference crown.

The Chargers, who enter Saturday's match on a 12-game unbeaten streak, are led by three All-NAC First Team and an All-NAC Second Team selections. First Team selection sophomore Rachel Quaye leads the Chargers with 17 points on seven goals and three assists, while First Team selection sophomore Kelsey Campbell is second on the team with 16 points on five goals and a team best six assists. Corrie Hoyt, who was named to the All-NAC First Team and NAC Rookie of the Year leads a stout back line that surrendered only three goals in nine conference matches. Second Team selection senior Michelle Upham also is an offensive force for the Chargers with seven goals on the season. Colby-Sawyer goalie Karley Hamilton enters the contest with a .92 goals against average, 77 saves and eight clean sheets.

Castleton enters its sixth straight NAC title game with a 12-7-1 record. The Spartans are led by conference Player of the Year Mallory Costello and Defensive Player of the Year Allie Vachon. Costello finished the conference regular season as the leader or tied for the lead in five different offensive categories including points (20, 1st), shots on goal (33, 1st), goals (7, T1st), assists (6, T1st), and game-winning goals (3, T1st). Vachon has been extremely solid for a Spartan defense that has given up only 24 goals this season, while allowing only three goals in conference play. The junior has started in all 20 of Castleton's games this season, seven of which the team earned shutout victories. Castleton goalie Jessica Binkowski has allowed 22 goals in 20 games for a 1.13 goals against average. She has 81 saves and seven shutouts on the season.
