Women's Soccer to Face #24 MIT in NCAA Tournament

NEW LONDON, N.H. - November 10, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team will be making its second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, November 15. The Chargers will play at #24 MIT at 11:00 a.m.

MIT (14-4-2) will host a pair of games on Saturday, November 15 and a single game on Sunday, November 16. The Colby-Sawyer versus MIT winner will face the winner of Bowdoin (12-4) versus Roger Williams (17-2-4).

The Chargers (13-5-1) enter the tournament on an 11-game win streak and are unbeaten in the last 13. Colby-Sawyer won a pair of 1-0 matches in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tournament, defeating New England College in the semifinals and Castleton in the championship to earn a berth to the NCAA Tournament.  

Sophomore Kelsey Campbell leads the Chargers with 18 points on six goals and six assists. Sophomore Rachel Quaye and senior Michelle Upham are tied for the team lead with seven goals apiece. Colby-Sawyer junior keeper Karley Hamilton has surrendered 17 goals in 19 matches and boasts a .88 goals against average. She has nine shutouts this season.

Colby-Sawyer and MIT meet for the 11th time overall with the Engineers holding an 8-0-2 record against the Chargers. The teams first met in 1984 and have not played since 1993.

The Engineers went 9-0-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season, but were ousted in the conference semifinals by Wheaton, 2-0. MIT is making its fifth national appearance in the past six seasons.

MIT is led by freshman Olivia Struckman who has 10 goals and six assists. Senior Ambika Krishnamachar leads the team with 11 assists and is second with 25 points. MIT sophomore goalie Lauren Ullmann has also allowed 17 goals with a .90 goals against average. Ullmann has five clean sheets on the season.
