NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 25, 2014 – Freshman Briana Bocelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored the game-winning goal with 4:28 left in the game to lift Castleton to a 2-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field.
Prior to the start of the game, the seven Colby-Sawyer seniors were honored for their four years of dedication to the field hockey program.
With the win, Castleton secures a spot in the NAC tournament with a 2-3 conference record and improves to 2-13 on the season. Colby-Sawyer ends its season at 7-10 overall and 1-4 in the NAC.
Bocelli put home the game-winner off a rebound after Colby-Sawyer keeper
Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) made the initial stop on a shot from senior Kristy Pinkham (Brandon, Vt.).
The Spartans raced out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring at 2:31 in the first frame. Freshman Rachel Holland (Bennington, Vt.) sent a pass across the goal mouth, which was collected by junior Emily Hudson (Dillsburg, Pa.). Hudson then deposited her third goal of the season into the right corner of the cage.
Colby-Sawyer knotted the score in the 14th minute on senior
Nykki Stritzinger's (Bel Air, Md.) team leading eighth goal of the season. Stritzinger finishes her career as the all-time leader in points (43) and goals (18).
Castleton goalie Jess Galatioto (Queensbury, N.Y.) made five saves in the victory, while Dumayne had eight stops for the Chargers.
