Field Hockey Edges Elms, 1-0

Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 8, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team earned its first win of the season after edging Elms College, 1-0 in nonconference action at Mercer Field, on Sunday afternoon.

The Chargers are now 1-2, while Elms falls to 0-3 on the season.

The lone goal came 2:46 into the first half. Junior Jess Buckley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) received a pass across the cage from sophomore Brittany Grandbois (East Barre, Vt.) and beat the keeper into the right corner for her first tally of the season.

Elms had several chances in the first half to find an equalizer and outshot Colby-Sawyer 8-3. Sophomore goalie Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) was up to the task for the Chargers and made six of her nine saves in the first stanza en route to the shutout.

Sophomore keeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) made three stops for the Blazers.

Colby-Sawyer will host Bay Path on Friday, September 13 at 4:00 p.m., while Elms will host Western New England on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
