Field Hockey Earns 7-0 Shutout over Daniel Webster

Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 26, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team earned a 7-0 shutout victory over the visiting Eagles of Daniel Webster, on Thursday afternoon at Mercer Field.

Colby-Sawyer evens its record to 4-4, while the Eagles drop to 0-6.

The Chargers scored five first half goals and a pair in the second frame. Colby-Sawyer outshot the Eagles 29-3 and held a 14-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Colby-Sawyer received goals from seven different players.

Junior Nykki Stritzinger (Bel Air, Md.) recorded the first tally of the game less than six minutes into the first stanza. Three minutes later, junior Nichole Danehy (Billerica, Mass.) netted her first goal of the season.

In the 17th minute, junior Katharine Kessler (Newport, N.H.) beat the goalie to the left side of the cage for her second goal of the season. Junior Jess Buckley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was credited with an assist.

Buckley gave the home team a 4-0 lead at 19:22 when she scored her team leading fourth goal of the year.

The Chargers pushed the lead to 5-0 before the half on sophomore Becky Batchelder's (Pepperell, Mass.) first collegiate goal.

Sophomore Becca Hashem (Webster, N.H.) also scored her first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute, giving the Chargers a 6-0 lead.

Less than three minutes later, sophomore Taylor O'Connor (Franklin, N.H.) added Colby-Sawyer's final tally of the contest off a feed from sophomore Brittany Grandbois (East Barre, Vt.). The goal was her first of the season.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore keepers Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) and Kasey Redmond (Germantown, N.Y.) each played a half to combine for the shutout. Dumayne made three saves. Daniel Webster senior goalie Teresa Moscati (Buffalo, N.Y.) had 13 saves in the loss. 

Colby-Sawyer returns to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action this weekend with games at Maine-Farmington and Thomas on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.  Daniel Webster will play Bay Path on October 5 at 10:00 a.m.
