Box Score WENHAM, Mass. - September 10, 2013 - Gordon scored the game-winning goal with 2:32 remaining in the second overtime to hand the Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team its first loss of the season, 2-1.
BOX SCORE
Sophomore midfielder Jamie Breton (Concord, N.H.) struck from 25 yards out to lift the Fighting Scots to the 2-1 victory.
The win improves the Scots to 4-1 overall on the season while the loss marks Colby-Sawyer's first of the year (4-1).
Sophomore keeper McKenzie Dion (North Grafton, Mass.) is credited with her first collegiate win after turning away 11 of the Chargers' attempts on net, while starting senior keeper Kari Christensen (Standish, Maine) stopped five before leaving the game with an injury late in the first half.
After a flurry of opportunities in the opening minutes including a rip off the post from sophomore forward Lauren Hayes (Wantage, N.J.), senior forward Taylor McSherry (Wolcott, Conn.) got the scoring started for Gordon by teeing up a corner and bending it into the upper 90 over Colby-Sawyer's
Karley Hamilton (So./Bradford, Vt.) for the 1-0 lead at 17:17. Then, in the waning minutes of the period, the Chargers'
Lizzie Jorgensen (Fr./Manchester, Vt.) sent home the equalizer off a deflected save by Christensen to lock the game at 1-1 heading into the break.
With both teams threatening but neither able to find the net in the second half or first overtime, Gordon's Olivia Balloveras (Jr./Freeport, N.Y.) collected the ball in the Scots' attacking third and found Breton just outside the box, who settled the pass and sent home her third tally of the season for the win.
Hamilton closed the outing with seven saves for the Chargers.
The Scots return to action on the Quad on Saturday, September 14 as they host Western New England in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener at 12 p.m. Colby-Sawyer will play host to Keene State on the same day at 1 p.m.
