NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 22, 2012 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team scored four second half goals to beat Green Mountain 4-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 6-1-1 overall and are 2-0 in NAC play. Thirteen of Colby-Sawyer's last 15 wins, dating back to last season, have been shutouts. Green Mountain is 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Although Colby-Sawyer held a 14-0 advantage in first half shots, the Chargers could not find the back of the net.
With the game scoreless 20 minutes into the second frame, Colby-Sawyer was awarded a penalty shot. Senior
Colleen Coburn (Middletown, Conn.) calmly beat the goalie to the lower left side of the goal for her second goal of the season.
In the 82nd minute, sophomore
Michelle Upham (Chelsea, Vt.) beat her defender down the left side and ripped a shot from just outside of the 18-yard box. The ball sailed over the Green Mountain keeper and snuck in under the crossbar.
Two and half minutes later, Upham help set up Colby-Sawyer's third goal of the game. Running side by side with freshman teammate
Tallon Tomasi (Berkshire, Vt.), Upham delivered the ball in stride to the striker and Tomasi scored into the opposite corner of the net.
In the 88th minute, the Chargers were awarded another penalty kick after Green Mountain was whistled for a handball inside the box. Coburn again was up to the task and scored with a straight shot as the goalie dove to the side.

Shay Spencer (Natick, Mass.) did not have to stop any shots en route to the shutout victory. Green Mountain goalie Emma Lord (Greenville, N.Y.) made 17 saves in the loss.
The Chargers travels to Maine-Farmington next Saturday for a 2:30 pm game. Green Mountain plays at Albany Pharmacy on Tuesday at 4:30 pm.
