Women's Soccer Sinks NEC 2-0 in Conference Opener

HENNIKER, N.H. - September 14, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team began North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a 2-0 road victory at New England College on Friday afternoon. The game was the first away from Kelsey Field this season for the Chargers.

With the win the Chargers improve to 5-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the NAC.  The loss drops the Pilgrims to 2-4-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in the NAC play.

Colby-Sawyer would waste no time getting on the board as junior midfielder Lauren Bernard (Manchester, N.H.) would loft in a loose ball just 2:13 into the opening half, notching her first goal of the season.

New England College's best scoring chance in the first half would come in the 21st minute as Kristen Walker (Franklin, Mass.) would fire a shot point blank but Colby-Sawyer keeper Shay Spencer (Natick, Mass.) would come up with the save.

The Chargers would extend their lead to 2-0 in the 70th minute of play as Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, R.I.) would shake a defender and fire a shot in the top left corner of the net.

Leading the way for the Pilgrims was Caroline Mols (Verona, N.J.) who finished with three shots on net.

The Chargers would finish the game out shooting the Pilgrims 18-12 on the afternoon.

Picking up the win in net for Colby-Sawyer was Shay Spencer who finished with eight saves.  In goal for NEC was Tricia Sardagnola (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who recorded 11 saves.

NEC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 15 when they host non-conference opponent SUNY Canton.  Colby-Sawyer will also take the field on Saturday, Sept 15 when they travel to take on non-conference foe Becker College.
