Shay Spencer Sets Wins Record in 3-0 Victory over Maine Maritime

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 6, 2012 – Colby-Sawyer goalie Shay Spencer (Natick, Mass.) collected her 25th career win after the Chargers defeated Maine Maritime 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Saturday afternoon.

Spencer recorded a pair of wins as a freshman, then four as a sophomore, 11 as a junior, and currently has eight this season as she surpassed the previous high mark of 24 win by of Jen Plouffe. Nineteen of her 25 wins have been clean sheets.

Senior Laurel Bauer (Bradford, N.H.) got the Chargers on the board in the seventh minute with her second goal of the season.

Senior Colleen Coburn (Middletown, Conn.) gave the home team a 2-0 lead heading into the half with her fourth tally of the year.

Bauer tacked on a third Charger goal in the 60th minute when she found the back of the net off a nice feed from senior Sarah Lavalle (Newton, Mass.).

Spencer saved the only shot she faced in 58 minutes. Freshman keeper Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) worked the remaining 32 minutes. Sophomore goalie Taylor O'Malley (Middletown, R.I.) stopped seven shots for Maine Maritime.

The Chargers outshot the Mariners 23-2.

Colby-Sawyer hosts Curry on Wednesday for a contest that was originally scheduled for September 18. The Mariners host Maine-Presque Isle at noon tomorrow.
