NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 28, 2012 – Junior Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, R.I.) scored three first half goals as the Colby-Sawyer Chargers defeated the Hornets of Lyndon, 4-1 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's soccer quarterfinal contest.

The Chargers (13-2-4), who are the tournament's top seed, will host fourth seed Maine-Farmington on Wednesday. UMF defeated New England College today 1-0. Lyndon ends its season at 4-12-1.

Bender got the scoring started in the 21st minute when she gained control of a loose ball in front of the net. She then deposited the ball into the right side of the net by the diving keeper.

Fifteen minutes later, Bender was one on one with the goaltender and found a small opening in the lower left corner of the net for her second tally of the game.

Bender recorded the hat-trick three minutes later after being set up with a nice through ball from senior Colleen Coburn (Middletown, Conn.). The goal was Bender's team best 10th of the season.

Colby-Sawyer took a 4-0 lead in the 68th minute on a goal from senior Ashley Reis (Stowe, Vt.). Reis was driving down the middle of the field when she chipped a high ball at the goal. The ball was too high for the goalie to reach and snuck in under the crossbar for her third goal of the season.

Lyndon's lone goal came in the 84th minute when the Chargers defense committed a foul in the box, which resulted in a penalty kick. Sophomore Katy Ebner (East Hampstead, N.H.) was up to the task and scored into the right corner of the net for her first goal of the season.

Senior Shay Spencer (Natick, Mass.) got the win and made one save in 53 minutes of work. Freshman Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) was in net for the remaining 37 minutes. Lyndon goalie Samantha Smith (North Haverhill, N.H.) collected eight saves in the loss.

The Chargers held a 24-3 edge in shots and an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
