Thomas Defeats Colby-Sawyer Field Hockey, 2-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 13, 2012 – The Thomas College field hockey team earned a 2-0 road win at Colby-Sawyer in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers improve to 5-8 overall and 3-4 in the NAC, while Colby-Sawyer pulls even at 5-5 overall and drops to 1-3 in conference play.

Thomas senior Miranda Tinsman (Belgrade, Maine) put the visitors on top 1-0 27 minutes into the game when she found the back of the cage off a feed from freshman Erin Nelligan (Walpole, Mass.). The goal was Tinsman's fifth of the season.

The Terriers increased their lead in the 55th minute on senior Bre Girard's (Westbrook, Maine) first goal of the season. Senior teammate Ally Kennedy (Winthrop, Maine) was credited with the assist.

Thomas junior goalie Sofia Sourgiadakis (Littleton, N.H.) made one save in the shutout. Colby-Sawyer freshman goalie Kasey Redmond (Germantown, N.Y.) had nine saves in the loss.

Thomas held a 14-4 edge in shots and a slim 8-7 margin in penalty corners.

Colby-Sawyer hosts its third straight home game tomorrow against Maine-Farmington at noon. Thomas plays at Castleton tomorrow at noon.
