BOX SCORE
NORTHFIELD, Vt. – September 8, 2011 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team fell at Norwich, 4-1 at Howard Field on Thursday.
Junior forward Brittany Casey (Pointe-Claire, Que.) notched a hat trick to lead the Cadets' offense, while sophomore midfielder Baylie Lamarre chipped in a goal as well.
Colby-Sawyer (2-2-0, 0-0 NAC) struck first in the 16th minute when
Adrienne Bender took a pass from
Laurel Bauer and took a shot to the upper right hand corner of the net from 25 yards out. The strike caught Norwich goalkeeper Liz Chapdelaine off her line and gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead.
However, it was all Norwich from there as the Cadets responded with four unanswered goals, starting with Casey's first tally of the game that leveled the score at one with exactly 13 minutes remaining in the half.
Casey took a shot from the right side of the penalty box and beat Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Shalyn Spencer far post.
Neither side was able to score again before the end of the half. Norwich outshot Colby-Sawyer 8-7.
The Cadets (2-0-0, 0-0 GNAC) needed just 43 seconds to take the lead at the start of the second half when Baylie Lamarre scored her second goal of the season with a left-footed shot to the right post that left Spencer no chance.
Casey added her second goal of the game just 1:02 later to give Norwich a 3-1 lead. Casey took a low shot that Spencer got a piece of, but the ball squirted underneath her and into the back of the net.
Casey capped the scoring in the 68th minute when she was sprung free by a flick from Shelby Descoteaux to the center of the penalty box. Casey took one dribble and then buried the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to make it 4-1 and complete her hat trick.
Chapdelaine recorded her second win of the season in net for the Cadets after stopping five shots on six chances. Spencer took the loss for Colby-Sawyer to drop to 2-2 on the season after making one save on four shots on goal.
The Chargers remain on the road on Saturday with a 1:00 pm tilt at Mount Holyoke.
