Daniel Webster Edges Field Hockey in Overtime, 3-2

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 28, 2011 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to send the game into overtime, but fell 3-2 to Daniel Webster, four minutes into the extra frame. 

The Eagles improve to 2-4, while Colby-Sawyer falls to 2-6 on the season.

Sophomore Samantha Crooker (Gilford, N.H.) put Daniel Webster on top 1-0 just two minutes into the second half on a pass from sophomore Courtney Brennan (Beverly, Mass.).

The Eagles took a 2-0 advantage in the 48th minute on Brennan's fourth goal of the season.

Colby-Sawyer began to find their offensive attack late in the game and was able to cut the deficit in half on a goal from freshman Nykki Stritzinger (Bel Air, Md.) in the 55th minute.

Freshman Emma Frampton (Portsmouth, N.H.) tied the game at 2-2 with six minutes left in regulation. The goal was Emma's first collegiate tally.

Daniel Webster was awarded a penalty corner four minutes into the first overtime session and made it count. Junior Samantha Bark (Belfast, Maine) sent the ball to the top of the circle where sophomore Shelby Mortin (North Kingstown, R.I.) took a touch. Mortin took two steps in and fired the ball into the back of the cage for the win.

Daniel Webster goalie, Amy Prince (Hope Valley, R.I.), picked up the win and made two saves. Colby-Sawyer goalie, sophomore Colleen O'Hurley (Weare, N.H.), made 1 save in the loss.

Colby-Sawyer hosts Rivier on Saturday at 11:00 am. Daniel Webster travels to Elms for a 2:00 pm start on Saturday.
