Field Hockey Blanks Elms, 2-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 17, 2011 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team earned a 2-0 victory over Elms in a nonconference tilt Saturday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-2 on the season, while Elms drops to 1-3.

Freshman Katharine Kessler (Newport, N.H.) scored what proved to be the game winning goal 17 minutes into the game. The goal was Kessler's second off the season.

The Chargers increased the lead to two early into the second half when freshman Alexa Comesanas (Germantown, N.Y.) tallied her first collegiate goal. Freshman Nykki Stritzinger (Bel Air, Md.) was credited with the assist.

Colby-Sawyer goalie, sophomore Colleen O'Hurley (Weare, N.H.), made six saves in the victory. Elms keeper, Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.), made 14 saves in the loss.

The Chargers held a 16-7 edge in shots and 10-3 in penalty corners.

Colby-Sawyer hosts Plymouth State on Monday at 4:00 pm, while Elms will host Westfield State on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
