BOX SCORE

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 16, 2011 – Colby-Sawyer College sophomore Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, R.I.) scored all four goals in a 4-0 victory over New England College, in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams.

Bender's four goals is one shy of tying a school record for goals in a game.

Colby-Sawyer evens its record to 3-3 overall and is 1-0 in conference play. The Pilgrims dip to 3-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the NAC.

Bender began her scoring in the ninth minute when she received a cross from sophomore Lauren Bernard (Manchester, N.H.). No one was with Bender in front of the net allowing her to slide the ball into the right corner past the keeper.

In the 40th minute, Bender received a perfect through ball from junior Sarah Lavalle (Newton, Mass.) that led to a break away. Bender raced ahead of all defenders and tallied her second goal of the game.

Bender made it a hat trick in the 53rd minute after she gathered a deflected ball of a New England College defender. She did the rest, beating the keeper to the left corner.

Lauren Bernard set up Bender one more time in the 72nd that led to another break away and goal. Bernard assisted on two of Bender's four goals. Adrienne now leads the team with seven goals on the season.

Colby-Sawyer junior keeper Shalyn Spencer (Natick, Mass.) went the distance in earning her first shutout of the season. She made two saves.

Sophomore Alyssa Whitcomb (Littleton, Mass.) and freshman Tricia Sardagnola (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each played a half for the Pilgrims. Each goalie allowed two goals and had one save.

Colby-Sawyer hosts Becker on Sunday at 1:00pm. New England College travels to Southern Vermont on Tuesday for a 7:30 pm game.
