BOX SCORE

MERIDEN, N.H. – November 1, 2011 – The Husson University women's soccer team defeated Colby-Sawyer, 1-0 at Pope Field on the campus of Kimball Union Academy, in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) semifinals to make their sixth-straight NAC final appearance.

Husson (9-11) will play the winner of the Castleton/New England College semifinal contest, which takes place later today.

Senior Brittany Belden (China, Maine) scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute when she got a feed in the box from senior teammate Alexandra Laniewski (Scarborough, Maine). The Colby-Sawyer defense had a tough time trying to clear the ball and the two seniors capitalized. The goal was her first of the season.

The game was evenly played throughout and most of the action occurred in the middle third of the field. Colby-Sawyer held an 8-7 edge in corner kicks and a 9-8 advantage in shots.

Husson keeper Jessica Poulin (Albion, Maine) made four stops en route to the shutout. Colby-Sawyer goalie Shalyn Spencer (Natick, Mass.) turned away five shots in the loss.

The Chargers will wait to see if they earn a matchup in the Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament, which begins next week.
