Women's Soccer Scores Seven in Shutout Win at Maine Maritime

BOX SCORE

CASTINE, Maine – October 8, 2011 - Lauren Bernard (Manchester, N.H.) scored a pair, but Adrienne Bender's (Wakefield, R.I.) goal 159 seconds into regulation was all of the offense Colby-Sawyer needed to defeat Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference women's soccer on Saturday.

The Chargers (9-4, 5-0 NAC) remained unscathed in NAC play, while the Mariners (0-10, 0-5 NAC) are still looking for the season's first victory. Colby-Sawyer has outscored NAC opponents 23-1 in five games.

Sarah Lavalle (Newton, Mass.) played a cross from the left corner for Bender, who slipped it inside of the right post for the Chargers' early lead. After Stephanie Huntley (Woddbury, Conn.) booted in a direct kick from 35 yards out, Bernard scored back-to-back goals to make it 4-0. Sarah Little (Scarbourogh, Maine) served up a corner kick that Bernard redirected home for her first. She netted her second at 32:32 with help from Abby Wills (Uxbridge, Mass.).

Colby-Sawyer's keepers Shalyn Spencer (Natick, Mass.) and Ekta Sampson (Hyde Park, Vt.) split halves in picking up the shutout. Neither needed a save to keep the shutout intact.

Kelsie Hilton (Monmouth, Maine) recorded eight saves over the first 45 minutes. Taylor O'Malley (Middletown, R.I.) recorded three saves working the balance.

The Mariners return to action next Saturday at Green Mountain College in NAC play. Colby-Sawyer returns to the pitch for a non-conference tilt with Berry College on Monday.
