NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 23, 2011 – The Saint Joseph's (ME) field hockey team defeated Colby-Sawyer, 4-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Sunday afternoon.

The Monks improve to 10-5 overall and lock up the second seed in the upcoming NAC postseason with a mark of 8-1. Colby-Sawyer falls to 3-13 overall and sits in a three way tie for the eighth spot in the standings with a 1-8 record.

Saint Joseph's controlled play for much of the first half, but had trouble finding the back of the cage. The Monks broke through in the 29th minute on a goal from Stephanie Lombardo (Steep Falls, Maine). She was set up nicely by freshman teammate Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine).

The game continued to be played in the middle of the field in the first portion of the second half with few scoring chances.
With the Monks leading 1-0, senior Sarah Bartell (Exeter, N.H.) ripped a shot past the keeper on a feed from senior Amanda Sebastiao (Uxbridge, Mass.).

Saint Joseph's added insurance with a pair of goals in a less than two minute span towards the end of the contest. Dostie and sophomore Rachelle Messuri (Atkinson, N.H.) were the goal scorers.

The Monks held a 14-1 edge in shots and a 17-1 advantage in corners.

Monks goalie Meaghan Johnson (Portland, Maine), earned the shutout and turned away the only shot she faced. Colby-Sawyer goalie, Colleen O'Hurley (Weare, N.H.), made 6 saves in the loss. Freshman Sirjaut Kaur (Hartland, Wis.) was credited with a defensive save.

St. Joseph's wraps up its regular season with a non-conference home contest against Plymouth State on Wednesday at 3:00pm.
