Husson Earns 6-2 Road Win at Field Hockey

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 22, 2011 – The Husson field hockey team earned a 6-2 road win at Colby-Sawyer in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon. 

The Eagles improve to 8-7 overall and even their NAC record to 4-4. Colby-Sawyer falls to 3-12 overall and 1-7 in conference action.

The Chargers got on the board first in the third minute on freshman Alexa Comesanas' (Germantown, N.Y.) fifth goal of the season. Junior Haley Gisonno (Georgetown, Mass.) was credited with the assist.

The Eagles soared back by scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead into the half. Junior Kara Poirier (Berlin, N.H.) tied the game at 1-1 with her fourth tally of the season on an assist from sophomore Samantha Blanchard (Corinth, Maine). Poirier put Husson on top in the 27th minute with an unassisted goal. In the 30th minute, sophomore Mariah Arno (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) scored an unassisted goal, which proved to be the game-winner. She has a team-high 19 goals, including four game-winners.

Husson added three straight goals to open play in the second to put the game out of reach. Sophomore Sabrina Vaillancourt (Newport, Maine) was responsible for all three tallies in an eight minute span. Arno and Poirier assisted on two of the three goals.

The Chargers added a goal in the 55th minute, but it was not enough as Husson held on for the 6-2 win. Comesanas and Gisonno connected again for Colby-Sawyer's second tally.

Husson goalie, Chelsea Kondratowicz (Kingstown, N.Y.), earned the win and made 11 saves. Colby-Sawyer goalie, Colleen O'Hurley (Weare, N.H.), made 5 saves in the loss.

Colby-Sawyer hosts St. Joseph's of Maine tomorrow for a NAC regular season finale at 1:00 pm. Husson also wraps up their regular season tomorrow with a trip to Castleton at 1:00 pm.
