Field Hockey Drops 5-0 Decision to New England College

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 19, 2011 – The New England College field hockey team earned a 5-0 win at Colby-Sawyer in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on a rain soaked Mercer Field. 

The Pilgrims improve to 8-8 overall and 6-2 in NAC play, while Colby-Sawyer falls to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in conference action.

Junior Jennifer Adams (Brimfield, Mass.) opened the scoring for NEC in the 8th minute with her 10th goal of the season.

Emily Kuchta (Norwalk, Conn.) put the away team up by two in the 24th minute when she was able to gather the ball in front of the cage away from the Colby-Sawyer defenders. The goal was her 12th of the season.

NEC went up 3-0 less than two minutes before the break when junior Kate Roberge (Essex, Vt.) put home a feed from senior Katherine Rich (Westborough, Mass.).

Roberge wasted little time in the second half and notched her 10th goal of the season 1:15 into the frame. Kuchta was credited with the assist.

The Pilgrims tacked on one more in the 44th minute on Elaine Armstrong's (Littleton, N.H.) first tally of the season. Rich earned her second assist of the game.

The Chargers mustered six shots on goal, but could not get any past the keeper. Nykki Stritzinger (Bel Air, Md.) led the team with three shots on goal and had a penalty stroke turned away.

The Pilgrims held advantages in shots (17-6) and penalty corners (8-2).

NEC goalie, Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.), earned the shutout by making four saves, which included a penalty stroke. Colby-Sawyer goalie, Colleen O'Hurley (Weare, N.H.), made 6 saves in the loss.

Colby-Sawyer hosts Husson on Saturday for a 1:00pm contest. New England College hosts the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday at 5:00pm.
