PAXTON, Mass. - September 11, 2010 - Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, R.I.) and
Lauren Bernard (Manchester, N.H.) tallied two goals each to lead the Colby-Sawyer College women's soccer team over Anna Maria College, 6-0, in a TCCC matchup Saturday in Paxton, Mass. The Chargers picked up their first conference win of the season, improving to 2-3-1 overall, while the AMCATS fell to 0-3 overall, and suffered their first loss in conference play.
The Chargers kept constant pressure on the AMCAT defense all day, connecting for four goals in the first half. Bender knocked in the first goal of the game at the 9:15 mark to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later, Bender got the assist on a goal by Bernard, giving the Chargers a 2-0 lead.
Liz Allen (Holden, Mass.) scored in the 31st minute and Bernard added her second goal of the half in the 42nd minute to put the Chargers in front 4-0 at the half.
Bender opened the second half scoring with her second goal of the game in the 53rd minute of action.
Sarah Lavalle (Newton, Mass.) added a goal of her own in the 81st minute on an assist from
Emily Brown (Rye, N.H.) to cap the scoring for the day.
AMC goalkeeper Tabitha Ruggeri (Strubridge, Mass.) did her best to the keep the AMCATS in the game, making a season-high 19 saves on the day, while Shalyn Spencer (Natick, Mass.) earned the shutout victory in net for the Chargers.
The Chargers return to action Tuesday when they travel to Plymouth State at 4:00 PM. The AMCATS will look to rebound on Tuesday at 3:30 PM, as they travel to Daniel Webster.
