New England College Edges Women's Soccer, 2-0

HENNIKER, N.H. - October 19, 2010 -
The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to New England CollegeTuesday afternoon.

With the win the Pilgrims improve to 6-10-1 overall and 3-7-1 in TCCC play. The loss drops the Chargers to 4-11-2 on the season and 3-7-1 in the TCCC.

NEC would open the scoring at the 23:07 mark as sophomore Samantha Levine (Windham, Maine) would record her first collegiate goal putting in a cross from Alyssa Wilkie (Saugus, Mass.).

The Chargers would have a chance to even the game in the 39th minute as Sarah Lavalle (Newton, Mass.) would get a foot on a long corner kick but the NEC defense would come up with a huge team save keeping Colby-Sawyer off the board.

The Pilgrims would tack on an insurance goal late in the game as Kristen Walker (Franklin, Mass.) would net her team-high ninth goal of the season putting in a rebound off the foot of Wilkie in the 78th minute.

Colby-Sawyer would come close to scoring late in the second as Charger Katie Carreiro (Cumberland, R.I.) would fire a shot that would ricochet off the post and out of play.

The Chargers finished the game out shooting the Pilgrims 19-11.

Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Erin Palma (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) who finished with eight saves. In goal for Colby-Sawyer was Shalyan Spencer (Natick, Mass.) who recorded four saves on the afternoon.

New England College returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 23 when they host conference opponent Gordon College at noon. Colby-Sawyer will battle conference opponent Regis College on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 3:00 p.m. in New London.
