Women's Soccer Blanked by Gordon, 2-0

WENHAM, Mass. - October 13, 2010 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team fell at Gordon, 2-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Wednesday.

The win moves Gordon to 4-4-1 in the TCCC and 8-5-1 overall. Colby-Sawyer drops to 3-5-1 in the league and 4-9-2 overall.

The Scots carried the play early, dominating possession of the ball. In the 33rd minute they finally broke through when Karina Scavo took a corner kick from Hala Coker and ripped a shot on net. Kelly Donlan used her head to deflect the ball into the back of the net, staking Gordon to a 1-0 lead. It was Donlan's third goal of the season and second in two games. Scavo picked up her 7th assist of the season.

The Scots scored again on a corner kick before the half ended. With less than three minutes remaining in the half, Katie Thompson recovered a loose ball in the goal mouth and drove a shot past Chargers' goalkeeper Shalyn Spencer, to put Gordon up 2-0 at the break.

That lead stood up the rest of the way, as Colby-Sawyer struggled to maintain an offensive attack. Adrienne Bender was a bright spot for the Chargers as she took five of her team's eight shots. Spencer made six saves for Colby-Sawyer. Gordon outshot Colby-Sawyer 20-8 overall.

The Scots will travel to Springfield, MA on Saturday to take on Western New England at 1:30P.M. Colby-Sawyer will play at Nichols at 2:00P.M.
