Chargers Shutout Green Mountain 2-0

POULTNEY, Vt. - September 2, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team rebounded nicley after Monday's loss with a 2-0 victory at Green Mountain, Wednesday afternoon. The Chargers even their record to 1-1, while the Eagles begin their season 0-1.

The first half was played evenly for the first several minutes before Colby-Sawyer was able to take a lead. Senior Laura Sansoucie (Haverhill, Mass.) sent a service towards the net that found freshman Sarah Lavalle (Newton, MA) who calmly headed home at the back post in the 38th minute.

The Chargers continued to pressure and found the back of the net three seconds from the half-time interval. Freshman Melissa Hynds (Derry, N.H.) found fellow freshman Laurel Bauer (Bradford, N.H.) who struck the ball near post past the keeper.

The Chargers outshot the Eagles 27-2 on the afternoon, forcing Karen Davidson (Seymour, Conn.) into 11 saves. The Colby-Sawyer defense grounded the Eagles in the second half to secure the 2-0 win. Sophomore Allie Piper (Barre, Vt.) earned her first career victory and shutout.

The Chargers will play at Castleton State on Tuesday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m.
