Peter Donato of the men's basketball team received the Charger Award for the Outstanding Male Athlete for the second straight year. This award is given each year to the male athlete who has extraordinary athletic ability and has contributed the most to his team, the College and the world of sport. The award is a token of hard work, good judgment, understanding and determination.
A junior center from Portland Maine, Peter had one of the best individual seasons in Colby-Sawyer men's basketball history. He led the Chargers in scoring (14.9 ppg), rebounding (6.8 rpg) and blocks (1.46 bpg) while shooting an astounding 58% from the floor. He was recognized by the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) with the rare distinction of being named both the Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year. The Chargers finished the regular conference season at 15-3, good for the number one seed in the NAC tournament. Pete was amazingly consistent for the team, scoring in double figures in 24 of 26 games. A long and active defender, he can guard 5'6" point guards and 6'6" centers.

Donato was instrumental in two epic come from behind wins at home in the NAC tournament, playing 86 out of a possible 90 minutes,  to secure the NAC Championship. The Chargers finished the season at 19-7 after a close loss in the NCAA Tournament at Trinity, a game in which Peter's 21 points and nine rebounds led all participants.  Peter's season did not go unrecognized as he took home a couple of regional awards. He was named D3Hoops.com All-Northeast Third Team, as well as, ECAC All-New England Third Team. Peter is already among Colby-Sawyer's all-time leaders in blocked shots (7th with 77) and has a chance to graduate among the all-time leaders in points and rebounds.

"Quiet, modest, unassuming and consistent, Peter led the men's basketball team to the NAC championship and the NCAA tournament with an astounding individual effort.  I feel Peter was uniquely qualified for this very prestigious award." – Men's Basketball Head Coach Bill Foti
