First year swimmer, Makenzie Welch had a very strong showing in her first NEISDA championship. Welch posted a new school record in the 200 backstroke. She finished her record breaking performance in a time of 2:09.45, finished second in the preliminary round and placed fourth in the evening's A-flight final ( 2:10.38).

Welch's impressive day continued as she helped the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Krystyna Estrada, Meghan Mamlock and Elaine Miller to an ECAC qualification, a third place finish in the preliminary round (1:41.28) and a fourth place finish in Friday evening's A-flight final (1:40.47). In addition, Welch and Estrada aided the 400 yard medley relay team to a fifth place finish in the preliminary round. With junior Alex Dumont and freshman Anna Gaskill, the team finished in a time of 4:12.18 in the morning session. In the A-flight final, the relay team placed seventh in a time of 4:16.41.

Welch continued her strong showing at her first NESIDA championship on Saturday with a fifth place finish in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:00.81. She also helped guide the 200 medlery relay team to an ECAC qualifying time of 1:54.62.
