Tom White received the Charger Award for the Outstanding Male Athlete. This award is given each year to the male athlete who has extraordinary athletic ability and has contributed the most to his team, the College and the world of sport. The award is a token of hard work, good judgment, understanding and determination.

Tom is a two-sport athlete, playing both soccer and baseball at CSC for four seasons. This season he was chosen to be a captain for both teams. “His leadership on the baseball field was like having another coach on the field,” said Head Coach Jim Broughton. “As a player he is a coach's dream on the baseball field because there is nothing that he cannot do. He is one of the top athletes that I have ever coached and his athleticism allowed me to move him from one position to another year in and year out."

During his career here at CSC Tom has been named to The Commonwealth Coast Conference All Conference team all four years at three different positions. During his freshman year he played at thirdbase, sophomore and junior seasons he spent at first base, and this season he was in the outfield.

“He is the best 'pure' baseball player I have ever coached. He has the ability to hit the ball to all fields, and do it with power," added Coach Broughton. "He is a very strong defensive player no matter what position he is at. What impresses me the most about him is his base-running skills. His knowledge for the game is second to none and he will make a great coach. Tommy just wrapped up the best season of his career, posting some amazing statistics."

Tom finishes his Colby-Sawyer career as one of the best baseball players to ever don a Chargers uniform. This season, he led the team in at-bats, batting average, hits, homeruns, stolen bases, RBIs, and slugging percentage. Tom has solidified his name in the record books by being in the top three all-time in six offensive categories. He ranks first all-time in doubles (39) and ranks second all-time in hits (164), runs (119) and stolen bases (40). He sits in third place all-time in walks with 59 and RBI with 133. Tom also finished his career in fourth place on the all-time career homerun list with 19.

“Tom was instrumental in the soccer team's first run at an ECAC appearance,” said Head Soccer Coach Peter Steese. “Throughout his years at Colby-Sawyer Tom displayed a great passion for the sport of soccer and excellent determination. He showed tremendous leadership and poise under pressure and thwarted the effort of many a forward. Tom's play particularly this year was excellent and he is without question one of the toughest and most hard-nosed defenders in the league.”
