Shawn Dunstan received the Charger Award for the Outstanding Male Athlete. This award is given each year to the male athlete who has extraordinary athletic ability and has contributed the most to his team, the College and the world of sport. The award is a token of hard work, good judgment, understanding and determination.
Dunstan has received this award for the second straight year.
Shawn excelled in his junior year by winning four out of nine regular season races in the MacConnell Division, besting fields of 75 skiers in each race. At the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference (ECSC) Regional Championships, Shawn dominated by winning both the Giant Slalom and Slalom events, giving him the individual Combined Regional title. At the USCSA National Championships, Shawn led his team with a ninth place finish in the GS and a fourth place finish in the Slalom, earning All-American honors in both. At the end of the competition, Shawn was fourth in the Combined giving him a 1st Team All-American award. Although he finished fourth, Shawn was the top American finisher, which granted him a spot to compete at the U.S. Alpine Championships for the second year in a row.
“To be invited to such an event is an esteemed honor as all of the nations top skiers compete, including World Champions and Olympic Champions,” said Head Coach
Garrett Lashar. “Shawn's consistency, hard work, and attention to detail on snow have allowed him to continue to develop and improve.”
