Exercise
Two supervised exercise sessions meet three days a week Monday, Wednesday and Friday 7:00-8:00am or 8:00-9:00am. Sessions begin with a group warm-up led by an exercise specialist, followed by a conditioning phase. Individuals will be given an orientation by the program staff in the proper and safe use of cardiovascular exercise stations including:
- treadmills
- stationary bicycles
- rowing machines
In addition to the above stations, participants may use the indoor walking/jogging track.
Following the conditioning phase of the session, there will be a group cool-down/stretch led by the exercise specialist. This will be followed by a relaxation period.
Education
Participants will receive educational handouts during their exercise sessions that address the following topic:
- nutrition
- stress management
- benefits of exercise
- medications
- prevention and treatment of heart disease
Our cardiac Rehabilitation/Healthy Heart participants learn and practice a "Healthy Heart" lifestyle. Many of them attain a level of fitness better than they have known in the past.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a medically supervised program?
No. Our program is defined as Non-Medically Supervised by the New Hampshire Society for Cardiac Rehabilitation's Guildelines for Cardiac Rehabilitation Maintenance Programs. In accordance with these guidelines, physician, RN or ACLS response is not available on the premises during the operation of the program.
How do I sign up?
If you are an individual with known coronary artery disease or known risk factors for coronary disease, a physician's referral is required.
All candidates for the program will undergo a subjective and objective evaluation that will include the following:
Health assessment and medical history, including a list of current medications taken
* Cardiac risk profile
* Musculoskeletal assessment
* Height, weight, and calculated ideal body weight, including body composition testing.
A stress test will be required for all participants every five years.
